English

SACE Credits: 10

Teachers: Georgina Harper, Alice Healy and Anita Kershaw

English is a compulsory subject made up of ten credits per semester for all Stage 1 students. Most students complete 20 credits of English in Stage 1 to fulfil the literacy requirement of their SACE.

In English students analyse the interrelationship of author, text, and audience with an emphasis on how language and stylistic features shape ideas and perspectives in a range of contexts.

Students explore how the purpose of a text is achieved through application of text conventions and stylistic choices. An understanding of purpose, audience, and context is applied in students’ own creation of imaginative, interpretive, analytical, and persuasive texts that may be written, oral, and/or multimodal.

Students will analyse a range of texts including prose, poetry, film, and selected short texts. Class texts include Of Mice and Men, The Shawshank Redemption, The Simple Gift, Good Will Hunting, V for Vendetta, Jasper Jones, Macbeth, and Stand by Me.
